Weather in late May to early June
We are planning to do a 8 night Iceland vacation during the last week of May to first week in June.
How is the weather like during this time?
I understand that the weather is highly unpredictable, I'm seeking experiences and local expertise on average weather during this time for tourists.
Are the days long enough like in peak summer? Is it too windy or usually rainy? Driving conditions etc.
We plan to rent a car and fly in and out of KEF. We will most likely do the ring road trip without the western fjords.
Thanks in advance!

Regarding weather, any sort of long term forecast is simply not worth reading. Predicting the weather in Iceland is usually very simple. It's unprectiable 363 days a year. The closest thing you'll get to know the weather is to look out the window, yet even that can fail once you've driven 5 or 10 km from your last point checking. Tomorrow's weather forecast might go as prediceted, sometimes it's not even close. Any, and every sort of long term forecast is subject to change.
Averages say nothing since there are so many microclimates around. Typical weather can be anything, sun, rain, wind at different levels every year.Edited: yesterday, 21:39

Forgot, driving condiotions are usually fine in the lowlands. Highland roads would usually still be closed.Edited: yesterday, 21:40

Thank you for the reply!
I'll put in a different way - How is the weather in late May to early June compared to 1st week of July? I'm asking because those are the 2 travel windows I will have to choose between.

There is no way to predict that. You would have the most daylight at the summer solstice, but as far as rain and wind that is anyone's guess.

Still rather unpredictable unfortunately. I wish I had a better answer but I don't.
The temperature difference between winter and summer is only 15 - 20 degrees.
For locals we call ourselves lucky if some nice weather stays a little while during our summer holiday.

Lots of websites out there with average temps and average rainfalls and also list extremes you can expect.
Similarly there are lots of websites that will tell you how long the days will be (hint: VERY long)>

Last but not least. In Iceland we usually have sunshine on one side of the country and clouds/rain on the other side. So it all depends on where you are each and every day because if you are f.e. in the rain in south Iceland the people on the northern half probably have sunshine. Same if you are in north Iceland and having rain, it would most likely be sunny in south Iceland.Edited: yesterday, 22:34
